Stop “Trying”

One of my sprint goals is to become aware of and eliminate the word “try” from my vocabulary. I realized that saying “try” left too much room to wiggle out of commitments that bring me closer to my goals.

“I’ll try to run every other morning” -> “I will run every other morning” “

I’ll try to get this workshop proposal done today” -> “I will get this done today”

“I’ll try to make it to your event on Monday” -> “I am coming on Monday”

I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to, which is okay and part of life. But I did catch myself saying “try” more often than I expected. There was also a real mindset shift once I replaced it with “will” and “am”.

I felt more accountable and committed, as if it were part of my new identity, which increased the likelihood of me completing the task.
