Conquer Your Personal Everest & Thank the Competition

Every month I share two entries from my 'Gratitude Journal', acknowledging what I'm thankful for; and my 'Brag Book', celebrating achievements.

This 15-minute morning practice has sustained me through some of the toughest events I’ve ever gone through by simultaneously providing a home base where I am and have enough, and empowering me to go beyond the comfort zone and pursue what I truly want.

My hope is that it will inspire you to remember your wins and appreciate what you have too.

😁 From the Brag Book: Conquer Your Personal Everest

Context: I was prepping for my first two videos for “Content 2.0”, which takes in everything I learned about my audience over the past 3 years to create content that helps us become better decision makers in a chaotic world. Yet growth can be frightening and uncomfortable, so reframing is needed.

I’m proud of myself for venturing into the “Wilderness” again. At the border of the Frontier with the wind blowing against my face, overlooking a vast landscape of opportunity - to traverse, explore and conquer.

When I say conquer, it’s not in the Napoleon style of dominating others.

Sir Edmund Hillary was the first to conquer Mount Everest, but he doesn’t own it. No one truly owns the mountain. Instead he blazed the path for everyone behind him. To conquer themselves.

In this sense, we are ultimately competing against ourselves. We are not beholden to the successes or to the failures of anyone else. We are here to conquer our own wilderness and to inspire others to conquer theirs. When you see things in that light, you will realize that you are your own worst enemy, the source of so much Resistance.

🥹 From the Gratitude Journal: Thank the Competition

Context: As part of Content 2.0, I analyzed other educational YouTubers like Justin Sung and Ali Abdaal to understand how they structure their videos to be compelling. Without this particular gratitude practice, it is extremely easy to get sucked into the comparison game in a field as competitive and noisy as social media.

I’m grateful for Justin showing me the ropes of how to become a better teacher. I think he’s amazing especially at the YouTube game, really gets his audience, structures his intros impeccably, and is a natural at public speaking. Much to learn from how he teaches!

Thanks to him, I now have a better idea of how I can provide real value to my own audience in time sensitive, high pressure, high stakes environments.

Over to you my friends, what are you proud and appreciative of?
